This is a great idea for christmas, and it is fun making these with the kids as well. Milk is usually not necessary when making traditional cookies(as unsalted butter is made from pure cow's milk so the milky taste of your cookie comes from the butter). When buying butter for this purpose, check the composition (ingredients) and if it does not say made from pasteurized cow's milk then its not pure cow milk butter. It is usually hard to find in Nigeria and even when you do its a bit expensive. So if you can't lay your hands on one, you can add powdered milk to your ingredients and also if you can't find unsalted butter, then skip the addition of salt. Baking powder is also not a necessity when making cookies.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons corn starch/corn flour
  • 100g unsalted butter
  • 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 3 tablespoons icing sugar
  • sprinkle(red,white,green)

Directions

Step 1
put the butter, salt and icing sugar in a deep bowl (unsalted butter is made from pure cow's milk so the milky taste of your cookie comes from the butter).
Step 2
use a spatula or your hands to cream all together until smooth
Step 3
add the all purpose flour and corn starch
Step 4
mix well together and mold
Step 5
place in-between a parchment paper and roll out using a rolling pin to 1/2 inches thickness then place the dough in the freezer to harden.
Step 6
pour the sprinkles in a plate
Step 7
after dough has hardened, remove from freezer and use a cooker cutter or any cutter of your choice to cut cookie to shape.
then gently press each cut cookie on the sprinkle and place on a lined oven tray.
Step 8
place a parchment paper on top to cover the cookies before placing it in the preheated oven(180degrees c). To prevent quick browning of the cookies as you do not need to brown the cookie and also to avoid melting the sprinkles.
Step 9
place on the lower oven rack between 15-20 minutes while checking every 5 minutes to ensure it does not get brown.
Step 10
remove from oven and place gently on a lined rack to cool
