fisherman soup in my opinion is an array of who is who in the sea world lol. But preferentially, these are the few i eat only. fisherman soup is best when all is fresh just like you would imagine a fisherman with his fresh catch of the day. And for some reasons i almost feel like a fisherman's wife when i make fisherman soup hahahaha. I love to eat mine lite just like pepper soup but if you are taking it with swallow, then you have to use a thickener.

  • 1kg fresh cat fish
  • 1 Large red bell pepper (blended)
  • 6-7 pieces fresh scotch bonnet pepper (blended)
  • 1 Medium onions (blended)
  • fresh shrimps
  • perewinkles
  • 2 pieces okra (optional)
  • ngolo
  • crabs
  • 1 Cooking spoon full palm oil
  • seasoning
  • salt
  • few sprinkle ugu leaves (optional)
  • ofor/achi (to thicken if taking with swallow)

Step 1
prepare the sea food and set aside
Step 2
blend the peppers and onions with little water
Step 3
add the crab and ngolo with very little water in a pot and add little salt and seasoning and parboil half way (like 3-4 minutes). with very little stock left
(i prefer to parboil just these 2 first because they take a bit more time to cook than shrimps and periwinkle and we do not want our periwinkles and shrimps overcooked and melted)
Step 4
also in another pot parboil the fish half done with very little water, salt and seasoning (2 minutes into boiling on one side, gently use a flat spoon to turn fish to the other side so both sides are cooked half done with very little stock left
Step 5
then place a clean pot on the fire and add the palm oil and bleach for 2 minutes
Step 6
then pour in the blended onions and peppers
Step 7
and then pour in the parboiled crab and ngolo with the little stock left from both crab and parboiled fish and leave to boil for 2 minutes
Step 8
then add the periwinkles
Step 9
add the shrimps
Step 10
stir and leave too boil for 1 minute
Step 11
then gently use a flat spoon to drop the fish in the pot and taste for salt seasoning. And add more if that from both stock are not enough.
I love to have mine lite and eat it like that but if you are taking it with swallow, then add ofor or achi to thicken at this stage. And swirl the pot around to mix instead of stirring with a spoon to prevent scattering the fish. Then leave to boil for 3-4 minutes and stop at this step
Step 12
but i love to sprinkle few seeds of okra in mine since i am taking it lite
